VOLVO VIDA DICE 2014D Error “VIDA NOT OK” Solution

Volvo Vida Dice during installation I get this sign that "VIDA NOT OK" , so it feels that the installation process ends there and doesn´t install the software.

The solution:

With lots of help from eobdtool.co.uk engineer, I've actually managed to get my VIDA working!

1. To do this I went into Windows START button/ programs/ Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2/ Configuration Tools/ SQL Configuration Manager...(left click on it to open)

In the left hand pane left click on 'SQL Server Services'.
In the right hand pane you need to make sure that 'SQL server (SQLEXPRESS)' and 'SQL Server (VIDA)' are both set to 'automatic'.

2. Reboot.
3. Go back into 'Add/remove programmes' and uninstall VIDA only! Do not uninstall anything else. Its about 1.5GB from memory.

4. You must go into 'My computer', Local disc (C:\), and delete the folder named VIDA.
Open 'program files' folder and delete the two folders 'Volvo' and 'Volvo cars'.

6. Reboot.

7. Reinstall VIDA 2014Dusing the normal 'all in one' option. (Be patient), mine took 45 minutes.

8. You should get the VCC Intranet / VCC Internet /Internet options come up. Select Internet and then let it carry on installing.

9. Reboot and then install the 'crack' without changes the field.
Its a dos programme so you will just see a couple of DOS windows open and close.

I did all of the above in that order and it worked for me after over 8 months of pissing about trying to get this sodding software working.
Now I only hope my DICE unitstill works!

All of the above was done after a unsuccessful installation with the 'VIDA NOT OK' message after installing.

How to easily reset Regular Maintenance Service Reminder Message on a Volvo S60 2006?

Step 1: Connect Volvo Vida Dice or Super Vida Dice Pro with car and open Vida Dice 2014d software.

Go to VEHICLE PROFILE tab and click READ VEHICLE button. It will read out car VIN and chassis.

Then choose Partner Group: AME (According to your region)

It will show full car information as below:

Step 2: Go to DIAGNOSTICS tab and choose VEHICLE COMMUNICATION.

You can see all car control modules, choose DIM (Driver Information Module).

Click the Advanced tab and choose "Resetting the service reminder indicator (SRI)".

Step 3: Turn ignition on and click the VCT2000 symbol.

You will see "DIM Reset SRLdata", click the "Reset" button and soon the operation finished!

In this way, you can use Volvo VidaDice 2014D or VolvoVida Dice Pro to reset Regular Maintenance light Volvo S60 successfully!

Tips:

Volvo Vida Dice or Super Vida Dice Pro all support Multi language Win7 and Volvo car from 1999-2015.

Win10 with Vida2014D and DiCE is now working. And I have connected to a separate ME9 and read some data from it.

Windows 10 is causing tons of compatibility issues across the board. You may have to VM until updates.

I have been using 2014D VIDA on my win10 tablet for few months and it even works via integrated Bluetooth!!!

Volvo VIDA2014D Windows 8.1 Windows 8:

I had it working with Windows 8.1 until an unknown update broke connectivity to DICE and no amount of system restore would bring it back. I guess 2014D works ok, but be aware an update may blow it up in the future.

DiCE was working with Vida2014B and Windows 8.1, but stopped working when I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday.

Need to uninstall the IE existed on the system, (probably IE9) first, then it should be able to install Win 8.

win8& ie10 sure don't play well with anything, can't downgrade in win8 either, that's what that compatibility mode is for.

Volvo VIDA 2014D Windows 7:

I just went back to a Win7 machine running IE9 and I'm very careful with the updates. 2014D is supposed to work with IE10 but it didn't when I tried it.

While it says it works with ALL versions of Windows...it doesn't actually.

However, it does have a GREAT setup instruction PDF that truly made setting up aVM super easy using Win7 Pro. Which then made setting up VIDA a breeze. I have it up and running and I even managed to connect to my older DICE unit.

I’'m on 2014d and W7 pro

I'm lucky in that I had an old laptop lying around that I could use solely for VIDA / DICE. Once I finally got it working (Win Pro 7 32 Bit, .Net 3.5), I turned off windows update, so that its configuration wouldn't change. I assume that as long as I don't change my car for a newer one, there is no benefit to an upgraded VIDA version (I'm on 2014D), or any further windows updates.

I used 32bit Win7 Ultimate. It all works now.

My only issue is my car battery running out being left on pos II for a length of time!

it must be Win 7 Pro ( or ultimate).

Vida 2014d will work fine with a fully updated Windows 7 Pro

On any 32-bit Windows machine, RAM in excess of 3 GB will be unrecognized by the OS

I've happily be using VIDA on my old Win XP laptop for a few years

I have an old laptop (currently with Vista) and an old ASUS notebook running XP SP3.

VIDA 2012, 2013A or D version software should be installed on Win XP or Virtual machine. But 2014A and new 2014D requires Win 7 O/S ONLY. that's a huge development for VIDA DiCE kit. Leave alone WIN xp or VirtualBox

I also run my VIDA in a XP virtual machine. No issues with mouse or USB, if you are familiar with VMware.

Volvo Dice VIDA 2014D Macbook (pro):

I run mine on a Mac using WinXP + VirtualBox VM without any problems. But UI is a little clunkier with a VM.

I have an old WinXP Dell that I use exclusively as a VIDA/DiCE box and I use VMWare Fusion/Win7 VM on a Mac for a VIDA reference source.

I have XPpro on my Macbook Pro in VirtualBox and that is working fine.

Here i would describe details of the system, HD size, Ram amount, processor type, you'll need to be running in XP virtual nachine, provided you have the size described above plus IE8, you may want to disable your firewall and antivirus during installation. at least 2GB of ram, more than 20GB hard disk, preferably 40GB + , I don't remember the processor type but mine is pentium 4 quore duo works ok, IE8 when you have those, your installation will be okay.

VM Ware player is compatible with Win XP, Vista 32 & 64 bit as well as Win7 32 & 64 bit

I have it running on my main PC and it works!

1) Original Volvo VIDA DICE scanner firmware PCB

Original Volvo DiCE unit boards are manufactured by Multech in Taiwan. Here are the markings present on a real board:

Main processor is M32C M30855 from Renesas. Processor alone costs ~$25 in Qty 1000, making it best quality and better performance.

2) Volvo DiCE (Item No. SP21-A) A quality HQ firmware green PCB with full chip, Price: € 88 +shipping at obdtool.co.uk

    

The China good Clone A-quality Volvo DiCE diagnostic tool is built same with M32C M30855 Main processor. The PCB seems just slightly different from the original one. We will talk about this later.

Volvo Vida dice scanner (SP21-B) is a lower price version in the aftermarket. It operate the same function as the above-mentioned sp21-A. The DICE firmware is made by a different manufacturer. PCB looks like this:

Clone Volvo DiCE and original one difference at PCB:

1. Electrically, the PCBs are the same. Even the version numbers stamped in the back are the same (1163 5.2)

2. Fronts used are different, the ground areas are slightly different, and the plate throughs are lower quality on the clone.

I started my car yesterday and after about 10 seconds, the engine suddenly shut off. The transmission shift up light, ets light, check engine light, and battery light come on after it dies. The car will turn over, but not even try to start unless you lock the car, unlock it, and try again. I went out and bought a new antenna ring at the dealership and installed it today. I also let the battery sit disconnected all night and checked all the fuses. The car started right up, ran smooth for about 10 seconds, then suddenly shut off.

What are the chances that my immobilizer module suddenly died?

Analysis and advice from experienced technician:

Not likely and that is a good thing. If it did you would need to buy new keys and have them programmed. About $200.00 / key.

The fact that it started and ran for about 10 seconds indicates that the immobilizer function is being satisfied. A bad antenna ring or immobilizer problem will kill the car immediately after it starts.

Based on the behavior I think you may have a bad fuel pump relay. Try jumping the socket positions associated with pins 15 and 87 on relay 103 with a piece of wire and see if the car runs then.

If the fuel pump is running and you have good fuel pressure you are likely going to need a VIDA DICE scan to get to the bottom of it.

I have one VIDA DICE from obd tool for 2 months, it works well as I need, it always get the latest software update and get some bug fix.

Got Volvo VIDA 2014D diagnostic tool for €80 (anniversary sales, the cheapest among several webs I went) from www.eobdtool.co.uk. It took 4 days to come here after I ordered it online. Well packed with a plastic box, including VIDA DICE device with OBD II cable, USB A to mini USB angled cable, and also a DVD with activated VIDA 2014D the English version.

I just got mine up and running. But I was never able to get my VIDA DICE to run on Win7 but after buying a Dell620 with XP SP3, it works well. It has some quirks with the pop-up windows but I been able to read and reset all the codes, re-program light delays, remove the after blow (annoys me to have a car that is doing stuff on its own, let it mold...)

I also reset the TCM so it shifts better.

Well worth it, although it would be better if the dice device can be used with Bluetooth. And it is a little inconvenient for the VIDADICE 2014D diagnostic tool to update softwarevia CD only.

Remember that it is also a service handbook in VIDA. its not only the diagnostics.

Car issue:

Got strange wheels slipping today when pulled hard from the stop. No blinking traction icon. A loud clank coming from rear end when I slowly turn with steering wheel at utmost position, sounds like ABS or, perhaps, it is ABS. Roads in MA are currently covered by usual crap left after snow has finally melted.

This is what I saw in a test drive with DiCE/VIDA attached to the car:

I see nothing criminal. Oil pressure sensor shows linear reaction to AWD demand, does not look like stuck sensor, which jumps from idle pressure to purge valve release pressure.

Also there's inactive DEM-0006, which has happened at 204900 km, car has now 2062000 km (128113 mi). According to my notes, at the time of this error registered the car had other electrical gremlins, including no starts.

Pulled the DEM plugs, blown with compressed air. Plugs were clean, no signs of oxidation.

Other info on the car: when I bought it in November 2012, it had 80k miles on the clock, dealer serviced. I did stage 0 and, among other things, replaced AOC filter and oil. Both were clean, apparently recently changed. Angle gear had signs of removal, I bet collar sleeve was replaced. AWD was working in this winter, car plowed really well. 2 or 3 weeks ago I called it a season and swapped winter tires Generals Alitmax Arctic (licensed Gislaved Nordfrost) with all-season BFGoodrich Advantage T/A, which still had 3 mm (1/8") of thread left before tires call for a replacement. Of course I felt immediately how crappy is the traction on these tires after Generals/Gislaved (Swedes know how to make winter tires). On a rainy day car was banging at the rear in the every turn in a flooded multilevel garage, but that is exactly what I also have heard from the Audi with Torsen AWD in front of me (ABS was engaging).

So what do you guys think I'm looking at? Unsatisfactory worn out tires, which easily loose traction and make ABS upset, or is it the first sign of Haldex heading to Valhalla? I could not replicate torque steer and front wheels spinning on a hard pull, which are easily achievable on wife's FWD V70 with same model BFGoodrich tires.

I solve some problem as following shows:

it was Haldex pump. Replaced, and the rear axle does not feel like living its own life now.

Oil screen on my pump was not that bad... Oil had some clutch material dispersed in it, but still was green, uniform and of about right viscosity.

The job is tough, but not that bad. Probably it is 10x times easier on Gen 4 Haldex, where driveshaft flange does not cover the pump, so no need to drop exhaust and driveshaft for the replacement.

I bought 3 pullers in order to remove the flange on AOC side. The one which worked was actually Craftsman steering wheel puller found at Sears. Two jaw-type pullers didn't work at all.

The dealer managed to damage the main seal when oil was changed (before I bought the car - I know that work was done, and done by the dealer), so it was very slowly dripping through the flange. Lowest bolt was noticeably wet after sitting through the night.

It seems the main reason of failed AOC function was low oil level - didn't check it in two years since the last oil+filter replacement, and not before starting the job, but when I finally got the pump out I've collected way less oil than 0.5 liter I put back at the end. Anyway, after spending slightly over than a day under the car to get to that seal and the pump and the filter, I didn't want to do it one more time when 10-yo pump will finish its brushes or if it is in fact broken.

Though that could be an advise for other XC70 owners: check oil level if AWD started to misbehave, plus you see traces of oil on the flange or anywhere on Haldex unit. At least, if it turns out that the seal replacement didn't fix the leak, I'll be just topping up AOC with oil once a year or so
